The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is a world-class cancer research organisation with HEFCE RAE ratings of international excellence across all of its research programmes. In partnership with the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to research that extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, through drug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient treatment.

The Institute is equipping a new flow cytometry facility for its Sutton site, and seeks to appoint an enthusiastic Flow Cytometry operator to assist in the running of this important resource. The facility will comprise a Becton Dickinson FACSVantageDiVa sorter, a second sorter (to be purchased) and a BD LSRII analyser. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of researchers interested in diverse problems in cell and molecular biology and immunology.

Applicants should ideally hold a BSc in a biology-related discipline, and experience in a cytometry laboratory including the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of high-speed cell sorters and analysers would be an advantage. Experience of working with Becton Dickinson cytometry instruments and Becton Dickinson and FlowJo software for analysis of flow cytometric data is also considered desirable. However training on machines and software will be provided if needed.

Position Title: Technical Sales Specialist (Cell Analysis)
Band: C
Location: Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland
Reporting To: Carolyn James

Purpose
The person in this role will be responsible for the sales of BD Immunocytometry Systems and BD Pharmingen products by direct sales activities, the aim being to grow and develop the sales revenue in the territory. The focus for this person will be in selling flow cytometry instrumentation and associated reagents into the clinical, research and industrial markets (pharmaceutical and biotech).

Main Responsibilities
To be responsible for the selling of the BDIS and BDPharmingen product ranges in the territory.
To ensure the growth targets for the BDB business are met on their territory within the BDIS and BDPharmingen product ranges.
· primarily brought about by direct negotiation, sales activities, attendance at exhibitions, organisation of on site meetings/demonstrations and technical support.
To participate in MSP meetings, providing up to date and accurate information about their territory
To generate regular reports for the BD Biosciences marketing team (both local and European) which communicate the trends, opportunities and threats for the organization from the market place.
Person Specification
1. The person will conduct himself/herself in a professional manner and will be business like in appearance.
2. The individual will:
· be educated to degree level (in either Cell Biology Haematology, Immunology or a related subject) and/or have 2-3 years practical laboratory experience, preferably in Flow Cytometry
· have knowledge of subjects such as: flow cytometry, immunophenotyping, leukaemia and lymphoma and cell biology.
· good listening and communication skills.
3. The person must be motivated to achieve individual and team sales targets. Must be an enthusiastic self-starter, who is results orientated with a good sales record.
4. Must be a team player supporting not only the Cell Analysis Sales Team activities but those of BDB UK. This will also include the ability to coordinate the necessary individuals from the various functions (e.g Application Support, Technical Service) to achieve the sale of flow instruments
5. High level of negotiations skill are desirable.

- We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our multidisciplinary team of scientists in preclinical safety, Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation. Practical and theoretical knowledge of immunology and basic skills in molecular biology, with hands-on experience in flow cytometry using animal models, staining of cell surface markers and intracellular components, titration of antibodies, cell viability, microsphere-based immunofluorescence assays, ELISA's and cell culture are required. Experience with Laser Scanning Cytometry is a plus. Individuals with a working knowledge of GLPs and validation of equipment and assays are highly encouraged to apply. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent record keeping; and basic computer skills are required. The successful candidate must serve as team member and/or lead major activities and develop new or improved methodologies/techniques.

- Post doctoral position is available for a recent PhD in Immunology to join our multidisciplinary team of scientists in preclinical safety at Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation, East Hanover, NJ. The candidate will be responsible for setting up and validating functional immune assays on samples from rodent, canine and non-human primate models. Previous hands-on experience in current techniques for cell based immune assays, flow cytometry, ELISA, cell culture, LLNA and functional NK cell assays is desired. Experience with Laser Scanning Cytometry is a plus. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent record keeping; and basic computer skills are required.
